General Information

 

 The School offers three MSc Courses

MSc In Public Health, which includes three streams
a. Public Health. This stream focuses on improving the health of populations, communities and particular groups within them through the promotion of health and prevention of diseases; the provision and evaluation of treatment and care; and the investigation and control of environmental threats to health. The emphasis of the course is on the use, critical evaluation and development of conceptual models, evidence and methods of analysis, and on practical, effective interventions. This stream will provide students with the necessary academic background, knowledge and skills in order to undertake leadership roles in the public health sector. Public Health graduates are expected to work in management positions in the public and private sector, in academic institutions and international organisations.
b. Public Health Microbiology and Laboratory Use in Public Health. This stream constitutes a multidisciplinary practical approach focusing on the Surveillance of Infectious Diseases and Outbreak Investigation. It aims at connecting the disciplines of Epidemiology, Public Health Microbiology and Laboratory Sciences to provide students with the necessary concepts, principles and know how as well as the required knowledge and skills in the context of Public Health. Strong laboratory training constitutes one of the main aspects of this stream while Food and Water Microbiology will be also extensively covered.
c. Chronic Diseases in Public Health. This stream aims to provide students with the ability to apply knowledge and skills in relation to public health principles, values and practices that reduce inequity in health care access and health outcomes and improve population health status. Students are expected to acquire the necessary academic background and set of skills so as to critically analyze the social, economic, environmental and political determinants of health, evaluate public health approaches to health problems and apply research principles and methods relevant to public health theory, policy and practice.

• MSc in Health Economics and Administration, which includes four streams:
a. Heath services Administration
b. Health services administration /financial assessment
c. Health services administration /nursing
d. Heath services administration/ social welfare

This course provides a foundation for the understanding of health economics as applied in the wider context of health services research. It combines core teaching on economics as applied to health and health care and exposes students to the wider related academic disciplines of importance in understanding the interaction of economics and global health, including the fields of epidemiology, public health and policy analysis.
